New Recipe, New Challenges, New Success!

Tonight I tried a new recipe, from a Rachel Ray magazine: Fusilli with Crispy Kale and Ricotta. First, I accidentally called the Fusilli, Fusillini, which reminded me of Mussolini and that is now what I have started to call this meal. Mussolini Pasta. Not sure how I feel about dictator pasta, but the name has stuck! :p

The future hubby loved this pasta, but it was just okay for me. It needed more salt, which is something I rarely say and I think I went a little overboard with some of the other seasoning (thyme, nutmeg and rosemary). My biggest challenge tonight was that our oven is extremely hot and if I am going to bake kale again, then I will need to set the temperature lower. There was a lot of smoke tonight - luckily no fire alarms went off!

Here's a picture of the Mussolini Pasta:

Another fun part of the night is that tonight was the first time G and I used our new salt and pepper shakers! How awesome are they?!

I absolutely love pigs; if I could I would have one as a pet! Yes, I love bacon, ham, sausage, but if I had a pig, it would not become my meal. After reading Farm City, where Novella Carpenter writes about her issues with owning animals that eventually become her food, I am not sure that I could stomach it because I get too emotionally attached. I love knowing where my food has come from and I strongly believe in giving thanks to the animal whose life was sacrificed for my sake. I also think it is important to make sure that all parts of the animal are being used. If I ever went hunting, I would make sure that the animal went to someone who would know how to clean it and make sure everything was used. Not that I plan on going hunting, but you never know!

Another fun experience and tasty meal!
